Speaking in Tongues

i have visited several churches with family and friends and this is something that i cannot get used to.

i do not know if this is basically done in black churches or not ( i am aa) but it makes me a little uncomfortable.

i will say that i have had feelings in these churches that i have never felt in the kh.

I've attended quite a few charasmatic churches after I got out of the JW's. There are many churches that embrace the gifts of the spirits. Baptists, Penticostal, heck, there's even Charasmatic Catholics.

I also have found that hearing someone speak in tounges makes me uncomfortable too. I just never got it. And, it seems that certain chuches place those who speak in tounges in a higer regard than the regular rank and file members.

I always thought that the gift of tounges was the ability speak in other languages in order to preach the good news to other lands. Penticost......33CE......(oh God...I got to stop now....slipping into JW speak........Must......get.....it.....out...of... my....head)

the recent superstition thread got me to thinking.

growing up i was terrified of "demons".

sometimes when we would have witness gatherings they would start in to "demon" stories.

One time, late at night, I was laying in bed and couldn't really sleep. So, as I lay there next to my wife, I all of a sudden heard this loud noise. The noise sounded like it came from in back of my wife, who was fast asleep next to me. The noise sounded like a machine gun. Sort of a Rat-tat-tat sound. Needless to say, the sound alone made me jump. What made me realize that it must of been demons was this ungodly smell that filled the room after the sound.

Now, me being a man, I know that a sound like that could never come out of me.....

When under attack by demons, especially at night, turn on the lights. Apparently demons though very ancient and powerful spirits, have an aversion to electric light. I dont know whether this covered both incandescent AND flourescent lighting or not.

And they told me that the blacklight I had in my room would attract demons!!!

Chevy: Yeah I know what you mean.

I for one never had any demon stories. Hell, I just thought being at the Kingdom Hall was Hell itself.....(Oh..excuse me...Gehenna )

There were some in our congregation who loved to tell their demon experiences to anybody who would listen. One of the stories told by someone in our congregation went something along the lines of while out making a return visit to an interested one in order to start a bible study, the doors of their car wouldn't unlock and the car door wouldn;t open. Of course it was demons who were trying to prevent the witness from going to the house. All that accompanied by the demonic voice of....Noooooooooo.....which I guess was added for the extra scary effect that Satan and his demons don't want you out in service.

Sadly, demonic fear is not just with the JW's. I posted this website on a thread a couple of months ago. It's pretty interesting. I guess deemmmeennnzzz are just about everywhere.

chicago - bill cosby (news) went off on another tirade against the black community thursday, telling a room full of activists that black children are running around not knowing how to read or write and "going nowhere.

I'm glad that Bill Cosby has the guts to speak out on this issue.

There are too many young people who are enamored with the gansta culture. Too many think that they can make a boatload of money by rapping like their favorite rap or hip-hop stars.

Like everything else, a small portion of this culture are making any money doing this. The other wannabee's are just emulating this lifestyle. Is it to their advantage? Sadly, in most cases, no.

What Bill Cosby is trying to tell young African American children is GET AN EDUCATION. Be better than everybody else. Make something of yourself instead of making excuses.

Today, EVERYBODY has the chance to get an education. It's amazing how many kids today squander that chance.

Schizzle my Hizzle my fizzle or whatever it's called is NOT going to pay the bills or put food on the table for anybody except for Snoop Doggy Dog.

Has Anyone Read the "Left Behind" series

i'm about halfway through and i think they're very engaging books.

not sure about all the beliefs laid out in the books, but i still find them really interesting.

That story actually happened a couple of years ago... Some jerk dressed up as Jesus, dressed up a bunch of blow up dolls in white gowns and stuffed them the bed of his pickup truck while netting them down. So he drives down somewhere on the street, stopped his truck, got out, grabbed a release string, walked a few paces, started waving at people driving by and then yanked the release string. The blow up dolls then floated up into the air while this jerk dressed up as Jesus was waving and smiling.. This caused some lady to see all this and stops her car. She then starts jumping up and down trying to go with "them", she ran out in front of a car and got killed in the process. I don't see this one dang funny about this since a caused a person to die in a accident. What makes me mad was this jerk never was charged with anything. So I bet this heartless jerk chuckled his way home. Yiz

WHO FEARS ARMAGEDDON?

the more time that passes, the less i even think about it.

i dont really believe in it but now and again i get a nagging fear of "what if we're all wrong and it is true" and boom big lighting rods and earthquakes come and shatter us all and i think damn and i almost beat jah on this one .

its so silly i know im right about my decison to leave the dubs but they psychologicaly messed with us for so long sometimes your like woah what if theyre right!.
